The Taiwan Chain and Franchise Promotion Association held World Franchise Night 2026 on the evening of 2 October 2026 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Centre, Hall 2, where Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an presented the ‘Excellent Headquarters Certification’. The association said it hoped structured reviews would help narrow information gaps in the franchise market, improve transparency across the franchise sector and strengthen trust in brands.
Certification takes centre stage at anniversary event
The event coincided with the association’s 30th anniversary and Taiwan’s hosting of the world and Asia-Pacific franchise annual meetings. Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and Chiang Wan-an both attended, alongside overseas delegates, international buyers, Taiwanese chain brands and supply chain partners.
As well as recognising brands that had secured the Excellent Headquarters Certification, the evening honoured board directors and supervisors who had long supported the franchise sector, leading capital-market companies and international partners. The certification presentations formed part of the programme, with the emphasis on headquarters systems and trust in business operations, rather than brand exposure alone.
Professional reviews aim to narrow information gaps
The association said the certification scheme was designed to reduce information asymmetry in the franchise market through professional reviews. For entrepreneurs comparing franchise opportunities, it offers a starting point for assessing a brand’s headquarters management capabilities.
Association chairman Wu Yung-chiang said its work over the past 30 years had grown from member services, talent development and brand development to include the Excellent Headquarters Certification, helping Taiwan’s franchise sector gradually expand across Asia-Pacific and into global markets. The certification is therefore part of the association’s broader support for brands, rather than a standalone initiative.
Overseas expansion requires more than rapid outlet growth
The association stressed that, as Taiwanese brands expand overseas, headquarters governance, operating systems and brand trust matter just as much as products and the pace of outlet openings. The presence of international delegates in Taiwan brought these issues into cross-border discussions.
Chiang Wan-an said Taiwan’s franchise sector had developed over more than 40 years, moving beyond simply opening outlets to encompass food manufacturing, central kitchens, equipment supply, digital systems, talent development and franchise management. The support behind a brand depends on several interconnected functions working together.
Franchise assessments should examine how systems work in practice
The association also noted that modern chain and franchise businesses connect logistics, technology, marketing, staffing, finance and professional services. Overseas expansion by Taiwanese brands could also create opportunities for their supply chains to grow alongside them. This is a development direction proposed by the association, not a report of overseas partnerships already delivered.
In practice, prospective franchisees can use headquarters certification as an initial reference when researching a brand, before checking the scope of the certification, contractual responsibilities, training arrangements and day-to-day support. The key is to assess how headquarters systems translate into practice at outlet level, rather than making a decision on the strength of the certification’s name alone.
