Independent guidance, professional development and a shared code of conduct for franchisors, franchisees and people exploring their next opportunity.
Taiwan’s modern franchise community developed during the 1980s, influenced by American and Japanese business models. International names helped demonstrate how consistent products and services could be delivered across multiple locations: McDonald’s opened its first Taiwan restaurant in 1984. Local entrepreneurs subsequently applied franchising to small restaurants and retail shops. A lasting organisational milestone followed in 1987, when franchisors founded the Taiwan Chain Stores and Franchise Association (TCFA), giving the growing franchise community a dedicated association.
Domestic franchising expanded further in the early 2000s, with brands developing across food and drink, retail, education, beauty and other services. Taiwan now combines international franchises with locally developed concepts, including brands that have expanded overseas. Alongside TCFA, the Association of Chain and Franchise Promotion Taiwan (ACFPT), established in 1995, represents the chain and franchise community. Today’s market is highly competitive, making careful comparison of business models, contractual terms and the support offered particularly important for prospective franchisees.
QFA supports the franchise community with a code of conduct, free guidance and professional learning designed to promote responsible growth.

One quality framework, adapted for each national market.

Simple Mart and OKmart will exhibit together for the first time at Taiwan’s World Franchise Exhibition in October 2026, offering no upfront franchise fee and incentives in selected areas. Prospective franchisees should check eligibility, store takeover arrangements and the full investment required.
