Marché Écono offers 173 franchise territories in Quebec

Marché Écono is recruiting franchisees across the Canadian province of Quebec. The discount grocery chain, which operates two stores in Quebec City, is offering 173 exclusive territories. As of 3 November 2026, its map lists 24 as ‘sold’ and 14 as ‘pending’. For prospective franchisees, the announcement presents a new opportunity, although the financial terms will need to be examined directly with the franchisor.

A province-wide rollout from Quebec City

The call for prospective partners was launched in late October through a video posted on Marché Écono’s Facebook page. Interested viewers were invited to comment ‘FRANCHISE’. According to L’Express Franchise, which reported on the initiative on 3 November, the post attracted more than 150 comments, including responses from Limoilou, Gatineau, Laval, Blainville and Saguenay.

This response indicates interest in the announcement, rather than a tally of approved applications or signed contracts. The announced expansion should therefore be distinguished from the number of stores actually trading.

At this stage, Marché Écono operates two stores in Quebec City, the provincial capital: one on Boulevard Charest Ouest in the Saint-Sauveur neighbourhood, and the other on Rue Seigneuriale in the borough of Beauport. The franchise project now extends its territory offering well beyond this initial base, from Gaspésie to Outaouais.

A map of 173 territories that warrants careful reading

The province has been divided into 173 territories. Each franchisee is to receive an exclusive territory defined in the contract, within which no other store operating under the brand may open. The chain says territories will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The map viewed on 3 November shows 24 territories marked ‘sold’, 14 ‘pending’ and 135 available. Territories marked as sold include Saint-Hyacinthe, Granby, Victoriaville, Shawinigan, Thetford Mines, Terrebonne-Mascouche and Gatineau.

Two of the mapped territories, Beauport and Boulevard Charest, correspond to stores already operated by the founders. The map’s labels should therefore not automatically be interpreted as representing newly opened franchised grocery stores.

For a prospective franchisee, the availability shown is a useful starting point. The decisive check remains the contract: precise geographical boundaries, the scope of exclusivity and reservation terms should all be clarified before making any commitment. A label on a map is no substitute for written protections agreed with the franchisor.

Supply and training at the heart of the offer

Marché Écono says it offers centralised supply, use of its brand, launch videos, training and ongoing support. According to its frequently asked questions, applicants do not need any butchery experience.

These elements outline the support on offer, but do not by themselves establish the resources needed to run a store day to day. Prospective partners should ask about the training content, how support is delivered, and the respective responsibilities of the franchisee and franchisor for sourcing and supply.

The chain indicates that applicants should allow three to six months between reserving a territory and opening a store. This is the timeframe stated by the network, not confirmation of opening dates for territories currently marked as sold or pending.

Obtain the financial terms before deciding

Franchise fees, royalties and the total investment are not published: Marché Écono discloses them only at a meeting. The application form asks interested parties to indicate a range for their available capital.

It is therefore essential to obtain a detailed budget before comparing this proposal with other opportunities. In particular, applicants should clarify the amounts payable when reserving a territory, the expenses covered by the stated investment and any recurring financial obligations.

Quebec’s regulatory context makes this scrutiny particularly important: there is no requirement to provide a franchise-specific pre-contractual disclosure document. Food businesses must also obtain a permit from Quebec’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food before starting operations.

Key takeaway: before reserving a Marché Écono territory, obtain written details of the full costs, the limits of exclusivity and the support commitments. The availability of a territory alone does not establish the viability of the business.
