Santagloria adds twelve franchises in September and October

Santagloria Coffee & Bakery added twelve outlets in September and October 2026, all operated as franchises. The FoodBox brand opened ten locations in September, its highest monthly total to date, followed by another two in October. The total includes new locations in Spain and one opening in Mexico, highlighting the role of franchisees in the group’s growth.

September sets two opening records

The main milestone came in September, when Santagloria opened ten outlets. Alongside its monthly record, the brand reached a new daily high: on 16 September, four locations began trading simultaneously in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Tarragona, Seville and Madrid.

The expansion also included outlets in Bilbao, Badalona and Alcorcón, as well as Mérida, in the Mexican state of Yucatán. The twelve additions reported for September and October therefore do not relate exclusively to the Spanish market, although Spain accounts for most of the locations announced.

In Madrid, activity during the period also included the launch of the first phase of a new Santagloria at Ramón y Cajal University Hospital. This project was developed with ILUNION Retail. The reference to a first phase matters: the announcement describes that specific stage of the outlet’s development, rather than the completion of every potential phase.

Vigo and Barcelona extend growth into October

Following September’s opening activity, Santagloria added two new franchises in October. One is in the Gran Vía shopping centre in Vigo and the other is in Barcelona. Together, they bring the brand’s total additions over the two months to twelve.

The announced locations show expansion across several of Spain’s autonomous regions and a range of site types. Alongside the Vigo shopping centre outlet, the Ramón y Cajal project adds a hospital setting to the same growth figures.

For those considering franchising, the key point is not simply the number of openings: every new Santagloria outlet included in this period operates under the franchise model. The figures refer to outlets that have opened, rather than agreements yet to result in trading locations.

FoodBox reaches 54 openings in ten months

Santagloria’s twelve additions account for twelve of the thirteen new outlets reported by FoodBox for September and October. The remaining opening is VEZZO’s first franchise, located in the El Faro shopping centre in Badajoz and operated by Grupo Tartagal.

All thirteen outlets are franchised and have created around 92 jobs, according to the group’s report. That employment figure covers both brands and should not be attributed solely to Santagloria.

These additions bring FoodBox’s total to 54 openings in the first ten months of 2026. The group retains its target of exceeding 70 openings by the end of the year and continuing towards 500 operational outlets in 2028. Both figures are expansion targets, distinct from openings already recorded.

For context, FoodBox ended 2025 with 57 openings and €163 million in sales across its network. In the first half of 2026, network sales reached €86.6 million, up 9.3% on the same period a year earlier. These are group-wide figures, not the individual results of the new outlets.

Locations and franchisee support underpin the plan

Ignacio Poblaciones, FoodBox’s Development Director, links the pace of openings in September and October to progress towards the annual target. The company’s stated strategy centres on selecting locations, supporting franchisees’ development and expanding the brands in its portfolio.

Santagloria’s figures therefore provide a concrete measure of franchise activity: twelve new outlets in two months, including both monthly and daily opening records. They do not, on their own, constitute a forecast of performance for future outlets.

Practical takeaway: anyone considering becoming a franchisee should distinguish between completed openings, growth targets and individual outlet performance. The next step is to assess the proposed location, the investment required and the operational support available.
