Anytime Fitness is preparing to open its first gym in El Masnou, in the Maresme area of Barcelona province, with an investment of approximately €900,000. The project will be led by Miriam Vázquez Gaviño, a new franchisee who will also manage the club. The opening is planned for the coming months, according to information published by Palco23 on 27 October, based on a company statement.
A club covering more than 700 square metres
The new premises will be located at 5 Carrer Flos i Calcar and will offer more than 700 square metres across two floors. The club is expected to open 365 days a year, a feature included in the plans announced for this site.
The announced investment of approximately €900,000 relates specifically to this project. It therefore indicates the financial scale of the El Masnou opening, rather than a standard franchise entry fee or a figure that can be applied to any other club in the network.
The announcement places the opening in the coming months without specifying a date. The club should therefore be viewed as a planned opening, not as a gym already operating in the town. Its launch will mark Anytime Fitness’s arrival in this part of the Maresme area.
The franchisee will also manage the club
Miriam Vázquez Gaviño is joining the Anytime Fitness franchise network with a dual role: she will operate the business and serve as club manager. The project thus combines the arrival of a new franchisee with her direct involvement in day-to-day management.
The opening is expected to create between six and seven jobs. This is an estimate for the future club, rather than employment already created. Alongside the announced floor area and investment, it gives an indication of the scale of the site the chain is planning in El Masnou.
In comments released alongside the announcement, Vázquez expressed her delight at joining the brand and her wish to make everyone visiting the club feel welcome. Her approach emphasises a welcoming environment, while her role as manager will put her in charge of the club’s day-to-day member experience.
Catalonia remains important to expansion
The project adds to Anytime Fitness’s planned presence in Catalonia. At the time of the announcement, the chain had 56 clubs operating in Spain, 35 of them in this autonomous region. The El Masnou site is a future addition to that network, rather than one of the clubs already open.
Enrique Iranzo, Business Development Director at Anytime Fitness Iberia, described the opening as an example of how the company wants to continue developing its network. He also noted that Catalonia remains an important region for its growth.
Meanwhile, Tim Devereaux, Managing Director of Anytime Fitness Iberia, linked the move into the town to the opportunity to make exercise accessible to more people. Both comments position the project within the brand’s geographical expansion, with a new franchisee leading its local launch.
An opening aligned with the chain’s targets
Anytime Fitness retains its target of reaching 60 clubs and 60,000 members in Spain by the end of 2026. These are company ambitions, distinct from its recorded operating figures. The El Masnou announcement forms part of that growth outlook, although it does not set an opening date that would confirm those targets will be met.
The chain is also preparing openings for 2027, prioritising Madrid, Valencia and Andalusia. Those plans sit alongside the commitment to Catalonia represented by the new Maresme project.
Practical takeaway: for anyone considering becoming a franchisee, this case highlights the importance of assessing investment, premises size, planned recruitment and personal involvement in management together. The announced €900,000 is a reference figure for the El Masnou project, not a universal budget for opening a club.
