Family Beuningen opens with an established local operator and a new concept

Family Beuningen opened its doors at Hadrianussingel 22 on 3 November 2026. Arjan Verploegen and Renske van Zoelen are jointly developing a hospitality business at a site where Arjan has operated since 2004. The switch to Family brings a new concept to the address, while the owners aim to retain the familiar feel of its predecessor, American Diner De Heuve.

A new franchise concept at a familiar address

The opening of Family Beuningen is not a first business venture at an unfamiliar location. Over the years, Arjan has run several hospitality concepts at the same site, including American Diner De Heuve. The new name therefore primarily marks the next phase for an existing business. The site remains in the hands of an operator who has been active there for more than twenty years.

In the opening announcement on Franchise+, Arjan and Renske emphasise this combination of familiarity and renewal. They want to preserve the welcoming feel of De Heuve while making room for fresh ideas. Their focus is therefore not just on changing franchise concepts, but also on maintaining relationships with customers who may already know the address from previous visits.

For those following the Dutch franchise market, this opening illustrates an alternative to launching at an entirely new site. Here, an existing business, local operating experience and a new franchise brand come together. That distinction matters: this is a new chapter for an established location, rather than an operator starting from scratch in Beuningen.

Arjan and Renske take the next step together

Arjan and Renske live with their family in Ewijk and, according to the opening announcement, have strong ties to the region. Arjan brings many years of hospitality experience. Renske is joining him to develop the business together. The opening therefore represents both a change of concept and a shared next step for the owners.

Their stated aim is to create a place where everyone feels welcome and at ease. This is an ambition for the customer experience, rather than a proven outcome of the change in concept. Day-to-day operations will show how the familiar character of the previous business and the new Family offering complement one another.

This continuity features prominently in their explanation. The owners do not present the switch as a complete break with the past. They are drawing on their experience at the site while seeking a fresh start. For existing customers, the key questions are what will remain familiar and what will be different on their next visit.

Burgers, Dutch snack-bar favourites and 70 seats

Family Beuningen serves a range of burgers and familiar Dutch snack-bar favourites. Arjan and Renske name the smash burger as their own favourite, adding a personal recommendation to the wider menu announced at the opening.

There is seating for 70 guests indoors, giving customers the option to eat on site. According to the opening announcement, the premises at Hadrianussingel 22 are easy to reach by car and offer free parking. A waterside cycling and walking path also runs behind the restaurant.

These practical details clarify where the new outlet is located and how customers can reach it. They do not, in themselves, indicate visitor numbers or future turnover. For customers, however, they provide useful information about the access, parking and seating available from opening day.

Outdoor terrace still in the pipeline

A further step has been announced alongside the opening: an outdoor terrace is planned for the spring. This would expand the space available for customers at Family Beuningen. The terrace was therefore not among the facilities available when the business opened on 3 November.

For now, the launch centres on the existing premises, 70 indoor seats and the new menu. The owners are combining these tangible foundations with their wish to carry the familiar feel of De Heuve forward under the Family name.

Practical takeaway: when assessing a switch to a new franchise concept, distinguish between what stays the same, what changes immediately and what is planned for later. Family Beuningen illustrates this distinction with an established operator, a new concept and an outdoor terrace as the next step.
