Franchise International Malaysia 2027 (FIM2027) is scheduled to take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from 6 to 8 May 2027. The dates give prospective franchisees and brand owners a starting point for planning their exploration of franchise opportunities in Malaysia, following a 2026 edition that drew local and international participation and reported potential investment exceeding RM600 million (Malaysian ringgit).
FIM2027 follows strong participation at the previous edition
According to a Bernama report dated 16 October 2026, FIM2026 attracted 159 local and international exhibitors and more than 26,000 visitors. These figures provide useful context for the next edition at KLCC.
The figure of more than RM600 million reported for FIM2026 represents potential investment, not confirmed investment already realised. This distinction matters when assessing an exhibition’s results: interest in business opportunities does not necessarily translate into new outlets or signed franchise agreements.
For prospective participants, the attendance figures can inform visit planning, but should not be treated as a guarantee of business outcomes. The announced three-day schedule also allows entrepreneurs to start organising their time and deciding what information they need before making a decision about a particular brand.
Early preparation should focus on the purpose of attending. Prospective franchisees can draw up questions about capital requirements, operating models and support from brand owners, while business owners considering franchising can identify what they need to understand before expanding their networks.
Preparations begin with local outreach
Ahead of the main event, the Road to FIM2027 roadshow began in Johor Bahru on 16 October. Held at the Paradigm Mall Convention Centre, it was officially opened by Fuziah Salleh, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.
Under the theme “From Local to Global”, the roadshow aims to introduce the franchise business model to a wider audience. Fuziah said the programme offered more entrepreneurs, particularly micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, opportunities to explore affordable franchise businesses before expanding into international markets.
She also stressed the need to challenge the perception that franchising is only accessible to large companies. This message positions access to information and meetings with brand owners as part of the preparations for FIM2027.
For the franchise community, this local approach provides context for the KLCC event: exploring opportunities need not wait until the main exhibition opens. Prospective entrepreneurs can first assess their own resources and understand the business options they wish to compare.
Education opportunities start from as little as RM15,000
Among the opportunities highlighted by Fuziah were education franchises requiring start-up capital of as little as RM15,000. She explained that franchise options are not limited to food and drink.
The sectors featured in the roadshow also included education, services, and health and beauty. This variety is relevant to prospective FIM2027 visitors who are still deciding which type of business suits their experience and financial resources.
However, a quoted start-up capital figure should prompt further questions rather than serve as the sole basis for choosing a franchise. Before making a commitment, prospective franchisees are advised to request written clarification of what the package includes, as well as requirements for premises, equipment, training and working capital.
Comparisons should also be made between offers with a similar scope of operations. A package with lower start-up costs should not be assessed without understanding the operator’s responsibilities and the costs incurred once the business is running. This approach can make an exhibition visit more focused, rather than simply an exercise in collecting brand brochures.
Use consultations to clarify your options
Khalek Awang, Vice-Chairman of the Malaysian Franchise Association, said the roadshow was an effort to broaden entrepreneurial opportunities for local communities, including young people, graduates, homemakers and retirees seeking to generate income.
He said visitors could obtain consultations, financing information and business guidance directly from franchise operators and relevant agencies. Access to such explanations gives prospective entrepreneurs an opportunity to check their understanding before proceeding further.
When planning your participation ahead of FIM2027, record the answers from each meeting and distinguish promotional information from the actual terms of an offer. Questions about time commitments, training, operational support and financial responsibilities can help clarify whether a business model is suitable.
Practical next step: Mark 6–8 May 2027 in your calendar, set a budget range and prepare a list of questions. Treat early exploration as a process of assessing your options, not as pressure to sign an agreement straight away.
