Burger King’s India–Indonesia Operator Expands Network to 769 Outlets

Restaurant Brands Asia’s network has reached 769 outlets. These figures for Burger King’s India–Indonesia operator should be distinguished from its performance in Indonesia alone.

Burger King’s India–Indonesia Operator Expands Network to 769 Outlets

Restaurant Brands Asia, which operates Burger King in India and Indonesia, expanded its network to 769 outlets in the second quarter of its current financial year. Alongside this expansion, the company reported revenue growth of around 20% and a narrower consolidated net loss. For those following Indonesia’s franchise market, these developments offer an updated picture of the scale of an operator with a presence in the country.

Network grows from 694 to 769 outlets

According to a Kontan report dated 30 October 2026, citing Reuters the previous day, Restaurant Brands Asia’s outlet network grew from 694 to 769 compared with the same period a year earlier. This reflects an increase in the scale of the company’s network amid rising consumer demand.

Outlet expansion and stronger demand were cited as drivers of business growth. Both accompanied the increase in revenue during the reported quarter, although the coverage did not specify how much each factor contributed to that growth.

The figure of 769 is the company’s reported network total, not the number of Burger King outlets in Indonesia alone. This distinction matters because Restaurant Brands Asia operates Burger King restaurants in two countries: India and Indonesia.

The network’s growth therefore cannot be interpreted directly as an increase in outlets in Indonesia. The report also provides neither a country-by-country breakdown of new outlets nor a list of opening locations in Indonesia.

Revenue rises as consolidated losses narrow

Restaurant Brands Asia reported revenue of 8.45 billion Indian rupees, up around 20%. The company also reported a consolidated net loss of 195.8 million rupees, or approximately US$2.05 million.

This was smaller than the loss of 586 million rupees recorded in the same period a year earlier. Network expansion and revenue growth were therefore accompanied by an improvement in the consolidated bottom line, although the company remained loss-making on that basis.

Separately, the company posted a standalone profit of 155.9 million rupees. According to the same report, this was the first time Restaurant Brands Asia had recorded a profit on a standalone basis.

These two measures need to be read separately. A standalone profit does not change the fact that the consolidated result remained a loss. Describing the company as profitable without explaining the reporting basis would therefore omit an important distinction in these results.

Narrower losses alone also do not provide a complete picture of operating conditions in each market. The company figures offer a combined view, whereas an assessment of the Indonesian business requires revenue, cost and operating performance data specific to Indonesia.

Reported like-for-like sales growth relates to India

Alongside expanding its network, Burger King recorded like-for-like sales growth, also known as same-store sales growth, of 14% in India during the quarter. This measure refers to sales at outlets that have been operating for at least one year.

This indicator differs from growth in outlet numbers. The network total reflects changes in the scale of operations, while like-for-like sales help track sales performance among restaurants that have been trading for longer.

In this report, the 14% growth figure explicitly refers to India. It is not a measure of sales growth at Burger King outlets in Indonesia and should not be used as a substitute for Indonesian market data.

Restaurant Brands Asia’s improved performance came amid expectations of stronger demand for fast-food restaurants. Those expectations should nevertheless be distinguished from recorded results. The reported data show company revenue growth and like-for-like sales growth in India, rather than a quantified forecast for all outlets across both countries.

What this means for those considering Indonesia’s franchise market

This news is relevant to those following Indonesia’s franchise market because it concerns an operator doing business in the country. Changes in its network size and financial results can help readers monitor the progress of a brand across borders, without assuming that conditions are the same in every market.

The most useful approach is to separate three things: outlet numbers at company level, financial results by reporting basis, and sales indicators by country. Keeping these distinct avoids treating network expansion as automatic evidence of rising sales at every outlet or improving profitability in Indonesia.

Practical takeaway: use this report as an overview of the operator’s development, not as a measure of local outlet profitability. Before making a business decision, request Indonesia-specific data and operating details for the location you are assessing.
