Franchise Accelerator Aims to Prepare Egyptian Brands for Expansion

Abeer Goleih, franchise consultant and chief executive of National Franchises Group, has revealed that the group’s entry into the Egyptian market centres on three complementary initiatives, led by a franchise accelerator to prepare local brands for expansion. The initiatives also include roadshows across Egypt’s governorates and the Egyptian–Saudi international franchise exhibition, ‘Franx’, linking business readiness with opportunities to connect with investors and overseas markets.

Preparing brands before promoting expansion opportunities

Goleih’s comments appeared in a report published by Al-Ahram on 2 November 2026, examining the franchise community’s role in opening up growth opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises. The three initiatives place support for local brands alongside knowledge sharing and the promotion of investment opportunities, rather than treating expansion simply as a matter of opening new outlets.

According to Goleih, the franchise accelerator aims to prepare local brands for expansion, while the roadshows will bring knowledge and investment opportunities to the governorates. The Franx exhibition, meanwhile, aims to connect Egyptian brands with investors and overseas markets. These are the initiatives’ stated objectives, not an announcement of expansion already achieved.

This sequence matters for business owners seeking to move from running a small operation to becoming a franchisor. Preparation is primarily about a brand’s ability to transfer its business model, while the roadshows and exhibition provide opportunities to present that model and engage with interested parties. Under the expansion requirements outlined by Goleih, investor networking is no substitute for operational and legal readiness.

From a successful business to a repeatable model

Goleih described franchising as one of the fastest routes to turning successful local businesses into scalable brands. She explained, however, that it involves more than transferring a product: it requires the implementation of a proven, structured business model that new investors can replicate.

Speaking about Alexandria, she said the city has successful businesses that could benefit from this approach, provided they document their business models and develop their brand identities. In her view, this means preparing a business to move from a single outlet to a network across Egypt and abroad, with the potential to attract investment and create jobs.

She stressed that franchise success does not come simply from replicating outlets. It requires a clear operating system, operations manuals and legal frameworks that protect the brand and maintain consistent quality across locations. The success of the original business alone is therefore not presented as sufficient grounds for franchising; it must also be possible to document how the business works and transfer that knowledge to other operators.

These requirements provide the practical context for the accelerator’s stated aim: preparing local brands for expansion. The focus is on the readiness of the business model, not merely on spreading a brand name or making a product available at another location. This distinction matters to brand owners and investors assessing new opportunities in Egypt’s franchise market.

Knowledge sharing and networking support preparation

According to Goleih, the ‘Franchise Egypt’ roadshows will involve meetings in different governorates to raise awareness of franchising, explain the rights and obligations of the parties involved, and highlight the opportunities it offers. Their objectives include creating direct channels of communication between investors and brand owners, making an understanding of the franchise model part of the investment discussion itself.

She said she had submitted a proposal to the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce to deliver the roadshows jointly, starting with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. She expressed her appreciation for the federation’s partnership and support for the programme, saying the collaboration would support small and medium-sized enterprises and help bring investment into the governorates.

The Franx exhibition forms part of the same approach, aiming to connect Egyptian brands with investors and overseas markets. The announced initiatives address three distinct needs: readiness for expansion, an understanding of franchising and the rights of those involved, and relationships that allow brands to present themselves to prospective investors. These objectives do not, in themselves, mean that agreements have been signed or new outlets opened.

Local potential requires preparation

Ahmed El-Wakil, chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, said the Egyptian market includes brands with the potential to expand regionally and globally. He noted that the chamber has been working to raise awareness of franchising for more than 15 years.

El-Wakil linked the importance of franchising to the structured expansion of successful brands, the transfer of technical, managerial and operational expertise, and the attraction of investment and creation of jobs. His comments align with Goleih’s emphasis on preparing a business before replicating it, so that growth opportunities are underpinned by a genuine ability to transfer knowledge and maintain quality.

Practical takeaway: Brand owners seeking to benefit from preparation programmes and investor networking should begin by documenting their business model and reviewing their operations manuals, brand identity and legal frameworks. Under the requirements outlined, these are the foundations of expansion readiness, before attention turns to the target number of outlets.
