Mundo Único prepares womenswear line alongside 20-store network

Mundo Único is preparing to launch its first women’s underwear line in November 2026 as it marks three decades in business. Based in Antioquia, Colombia, the company has 20 company-owned and franchised outlets across the country and aims to broaden its sales channels. For those interested in franchising, the news highlights a brand that combines physical stores, e-commerce and domestic and international distribution.

A new category for its 30th anniversary

The company, known for its men’s underwear and clothing, announced the addition of a women’s line in an interview published by El Colombiano on 25 October. The launch broadens its product range, while commercial expansion in Colombia and abroad remains among its objectives.

The official launch is scheduled for November. For now, the announcement identifies the new category and its planned launch date, but does not explain how the collection will be distributed across company-owned stores, franchised outlets, digital platforms and distributors.

That distinction matters when assessing the significance of the news: this is a product launch within a business that already uses franchising, rather than an announcement of new franchised outlets. Nor should readers assume that the collection will be available through all the brand’s channels at the same time.

Twenty outlets across two operating models

Mundo Único reported that it has 20 outlets in Colombia, including both company-owned and franchised stores. This figure covers its entire domestic physical retail network; it does not mean 20 franchises, nor does it reveal how many outlets operate under each model.

The company expressed its intention to continue opening company-owned outlets and expanding its sales channels. The announced growth should therefore be understood precisely: the network is mixed, but the explicit plans for new openings concern company-operated stores.

For Colombia’s franchising community, the business illustrates how a single brand can reach consumers through several operating models. Franchisees are part of its existing commercial structure, although the announcement neither invites new operators to apply nor provides details of investment requirements or available territories.

Changes to the product range and physical expansion are also separate decisions. A women’s line broadens the product offering, while opening stores increases the brand’s retail presence. The company has highlighted both priorities without linking them to a specific programme of new franchise openings.

Production and distribution beyond the stores

Mundo Único began with a network of satellite workshops in Medellín. As it reaches its 30th anniversary, the company reports 170 employees, a presence in more than 20 countries and a network of nearly 400 domestic and international distributors.

It forecasts production of around 850,000 garments in 2026. This is a projection for the year, not a final year-end result. Similarly, its international presence and distributor network should not be confused with a count of overseas stores or franchises.

These figures show the scale of a business whose reach extends beyond its 20 Colombian outlets. Distribution is another part of its commercial structure, operating alongside sales through physical stores and online.

Mexico, the United States and online sales

The company also expressed an interest in gaining a stronger foothold in Mexico and the United States. This ambition supports its aim of broadening its sales channels, but does not in itself constitute an announcement of international franchise openings.

Its Colombian e-commerce operation has been running for approximately 12 years. Alongside its website for the Colombian market, it has a US website, with orders dispatched from Colombia, and a platform for Mexico, where it also offers delivery.

Practical takeaway: anyone assessing opportunities with the brand should distinguish between its existing franchise network, its plans for company-owned stores and the launch of the women’s line. Before drawing up investment projections, confirm directly which products, channels and operating models are available.
