Colombia’s franchising story brings together international restaurant concepts and home-grown businesses seeking new markets. Early activity dates to the 1970s and 1980s, although accounts differ over which arrival came first. Colombian brand Caribu Internacional took its franchise model abroad in 1977. Franchising gradually consolidated during the 1990s and became more prominent after 2000, as more local businesses adopted the model and international brands expanded their presence in the country.
Today, Colombia’s franchise community includes Colombian names such as Totto, Frisby and Sandwich Qbano alongside international brands including McDonald’s and Subway. Opportunities extend beyond restaurants into beauty, fashion, logistics and services. Colfranquicias, the Cámara Colombiana de Franquicias, is a non-profit association bringing together franchisors and others involved in franchising. It represents and guides the community, encourages collaboration and promotes franchising as an entrepreneurial option for Colombians.
QFA supports the franchise community with a code of conduct, free guidance and professional learning designed to promote responsible growth.

One quality framework, adapted for each national market.

Arcos Dorados has signed its first agreement with a franchise operator in Colombia. The restaurant is planned for Valledupar.

Prepare a verifiable financial evidence file before offering your franchise, and avoid presenting pilot results as promises of profitability.

Before buying a franchise, establish what protection your territory offers and how online sales, deliveries and new outlets will be allocated.
