Wow! Momo Foods is considering entering the UAE restaurant market, assessing Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah as potential markets while holding talks with prospective partners. The company is exploring both a joint venture and a master franchise arrangement. The Indian brand’s plans are therefore worth watching for those interested in franchising in the UAE, although its proposed entry remains under evaluation.
Three UAE cities under consideration
According to a report by afaqs, Wow! Momo Foods is assessing opportunities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah as part of its plans to expand its quick-service restaurant business beyond India. The key point is that the company is studying the market and discussing partnerships, rather than announcing restaurant openings or a completed UAE franchise agreement.
The report gives no timetable for opening UAE restaurants, target number of outlets or names of prospective partners. The inclusion of the three cities in the assessment does not mean that specific sites have been approved, nor that the company would enter all three markets at the same time. When reading expansion news, it is important to distinguish between a market being considered and one the company has committed to entering.
The development matters to the UAE franchise community because it goes beyond a general interest in the region: it identifies specific cities and partnership options. However, these details alone do not establish that franchise rights are available or that the company has already selected a local partner.
Master franchising is one of two partnership options
The company is considering both a joint venture and a master franchise structure. These are options under evaluation, not announced agreements or a final decision on how to enter the market. Keeping both options open means that, based on the published report, the relationship with any prospective partner has yet to be settled.
The nature of the opportunity therefore needs careful interpretation. The inclusion of master franchising makes the news directly relevant to the franchise community, but it does not confirm that the company will adopt that model in the UAE. Likewise, discussions with prospective partners should not be presented as a signed contract or an award of development rights when the announcement makes no such claim.
When assessing any future opportunity, practical questions would include the geographical scope of the rights, operating responsibilities, the outlet development plan, investment requirements and support arrangements. These are points for pre-contract due diligence, not terms announced by Wow! Momo Foods. For now, what is confirmed is that the company is exploring alternatives and engaging with prospective partners.
Sri Lanka comes first in overseas restaurant expansion
The UAE assessment comes as the company prepares to launch its quick-service restaurant business in Sri Lanka by the end of 2026, making it the first overseas market for its restaurants. This sequence provides useful context for the UAE news: the company is moving towards operating restaurants outside India, while entry into the UAE remains under consideration.
Sagar Daryani, the company’s co-founder and chief executive, explained that expanding beyond its home market involves listening, learning and adapting while preserving what makes the brand distinctive. He described Sri Lanka as the first real opportunity to put that approach into practice in the quick-service restaurant business. This direction does not, in itself, establish a UAE-specific menu or operating model.
The company is also looking to target the United States in two years’ time, drawing on experience in Sri Lanka and the UAE to inform its market choices, menu, restaurant formats and partnership approach. The reference to the UAE in this roadmap remains an indication of future intentions, not evidence that restaurants are already operating there.
Existing exports do not mean restaurants are operating
The company has a separate export presence through its consumer goods business, Wow! FMCG, which currently exports products to 14 countries, including the UAE. Its other destinations are Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Russia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
There is an important distinction between reaching a country through product exports and entering it with branded restaurants. The UAE’s inclusion among Wow! FMCG’s export destinations does not establish the existence of a local restaurant network, nor does it turn a franchise assessment into a completed expansion. The latest news concerns the evaluation of restaurant operations and partnership options, rather than the start of product exports to the UAE.
Practical takeaway: Wow! Momo Foods is worth monitoring for those interested in UAE restaurant franchises, but an investment decision requires official details of the partner, contractual structure, rights and opening plans. Until those are announced, this remains a market-entry assessment and a series of partnership discussions, not a franchise opportunity with confirmed terms.
