Juan Valdez plans four new coffee shops in Madrid in 2026

Juan Valdez plans to open four new coffee shops in the Madrid region by the end of 2026. On 30 September, the Colombian brand announced a new phase of expansion with a particular focus on shopping centres. The plans form part of its strategy to combine company-owned outlets and franchises in Spain, according to information published by Europa Press.

Four planned openings and 28 new jobs

The four announced coffee shops will be located in the Madrid region and are expected to create 28 jobs, according to company forecasts. Upcoming locations include the Islazul and Tres Aguas shopping centres. The announcement does not specify the locations of the other two outlets or individual opening dates.

The company presents this opening programme as another step forward since Grupo Trinity took over the management of its Spanish operations in March 2025. According to the brand, the planned openings will represent growth of 150% since that point. This figure therefore relates to the announced expansion, rather than an increase that has already been achieved.

The announced timetable places all four openings before the end of 2026. For those in the franchise sector, the announcement offers an opportunity to track a brand strengthening its presence in Spain, although it does not yet identify whether each new outlet will be company-owned or franchised.

A greater focus on shopping centres

Juan Valdez currently has 11 outlets in Spain: ten in Madrid and one at Palma de Mallorca Airport. This distribution highlights Madrid’s importance within its existing network, a concentration set to continue with the four coffee shops planned for the region.

The most recent openings listed in the announcement are at the Oasiz shopping centre, Calle Mayor 31, Calle Génova 18 and Plaza de la República Dominicana 7. These locations reflect the network’s mix of shopping centre units and street-front premises.

The next phase of expansion will place particular emphasis on shopping centres, the company explained. Its stated aim is to complement its street-front coffee shops, not replace them. Islazul and Tres Aguas are the two destinations identified for this new phase, while the remaining planned locations have yet to be detailed.

A network of company-owned outlets and franchises

Juan Valdez’s growth plan combines company-operated outlets with franchising. This is the announcement’s most relevant point for anyone exploring franchise opportunities in Spain: the company includes both models in its future development.

Virginia Donado, chief executive of Juan Valdez Spain, explained that the company is building a network combining high-footfall locations, shopping centres and a mixed model of company-owned outlets and franchises. She said this structure should enable the brand to gradually reach new cities.

However, the published information does not specify how many of the 11 existing outlets are company-owned or franchised. Nor does it explicitly assign either model to the four announced openings. The programme should therefore not be described as the opening of four franchises: what has been confirmed is a plan for four coffee shops within a strategy that includes both models.

Other cities under consideration, but no destinations confirmed

The company regards Spain as a strategic market and has indicated that it is considering entering other Spanish cities. For now, the announcement neither identifies those destinations nor provides a timetable for expansion beyond the locations already disclosed.

The immediate priority therefore remains Madrid, with further openings planned and a greater presence in shopping centres. Expansion into other cities is part of management’s stated ambitions, but does not yet amount to a list of confirmed projects.

Practical takeaway: anyone considering joining the network should check with the brand which locations are available as franchises and which will be company-operated. The announcement confirms a mixed-model strategy, but does not detail entry requirements or assign an operating model to each new coffee shop.
