The Spanish company has agreed a deal with Disresa to enter Guatemala in 2027, with an initial focus on shopping centres.

Multiópticas plans to enter Guatemala in 2027 through an agreement with the Disresa group to develop its network of opticians. The plan, which also includes a launch in the Dominican Republic, brings another Spanish brand onto the horizon for Guatemala’s franchise sector, with shopping centres in capital cities serving as the starting point for the regional rollout.
Guatemala among the next markets to launch
According to a report published by Modaes on 20 October 2026, MO Eyewear Global, the company behind Multiópticas, has agreed its expansion into Guatemala and the Dominican Republic with Disresa for the following year. This is a planned market entry: the announcement concerns the future development of the network, not stores already operating in the country.
The agreement places Guatemala within a broader strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition to those two destinations, the company is considering entry into Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama and the Caribbean.
For those involved in Guatemala’s franchise sector, the key point is the pairing of a brand preparing to enter the market with a regional operator responsible for delivering that expansion. Rather than a standalone opening, the announcement concerns an agreement to develop a franchised network of opticians across several markets.
Disresa will lead franchise development
Disresa will manage the franchises exclusively in six countries across the region. The group operates around 150 stores in Central America and the Caribbean for brands including Skechers, New Era, Montblanc, Adolfo Domínguez and Birkenstock, according to Modaes.
That figure covers Disresa’s overall operations, rather than an existing Multiópticas network. This distinction helps put the announcement into perspective: the optical retailer will draw on a group with an established regional retail presence, while its entry into Guatemala remains scheduled for 2027.
Disresa’s role will be to develop the brand’s presence under the franchise agreement. The news should therefore be understood as an expansion through an exclusive partner, rather than an open invitation for independent investors to apply for a franchise in Guatemala.
Shopping centres will shape the first phase
The company said the regional rollout would focus on major shopping centres in capital cities, at least during the first phase. This sets out the type of retail location it will prioritise for its initial expansion.
For Guatemala, the announcement indicates the market-entry approach but does not confirm a specific site. The stated commitment covers the country, the planned year of entry and the broad location strategy within the regional plan.
Anyone tracking new brands in Guatemala should distinguish between these stages. Entering a market is an expansion decision; naming a shopping centre and opening a store are separate milestones. Multiópticas’ announcement relates to the first of these steps and sets the direction for its rollout.
Expansion backed by capital and an existing presence
The move forms part of an international strategy supported by a €45 million capital increase completed in late 2025. According to figures provided by Multiópticas, the capital increase was fully subscribed by the company’s shareholders. This funding supports its international growth and should not be interpreted as an investment allocated solely to Guatemala.
The company already has two outlets in Mexico, where it aims to expand its network over the medium to long term. In Peru, it entered Lima with two stores and plans up to two further openings before the end of 2026. The newly announced destinations would bring the group’s Latin American footprint to eight markets.
Practical takeaway: anyone assessing this market entry should focus on the planned 2027 launch and Disresa’s exclusive role, while distinguishing that plan from future confirmations of store locations and opening dates.
