Coffee Island plans 25 new stores in 2026–2027

With plans for around 25 new stores over 2026–2027, Coffee Island is combining international expansion with a reorganisation of its presence in Greece. The plans envisage around 15 locations abroad and 10 in the Greek market, while the company expects turnover to exceed €45 million in 2026. For the franchising community, the news concerns both new partnerships and the way a network reassesses its existing locations.

Fifteen locations outside Greece, ten within

According to a BusinessNews.gr report dated 1 October, Coffee Island plans around 15 new stores abroad and 10 in Greece over 2026–2027. These are expansion plans, not a tally of stores already open.

The allocation places greater emphasis on markets outside Greece, while domestic expansion continues. As a BusinessDaily report published on the same day also indicates, the company's international presence is now seen as one of its main drivers of growth, rather than simply a supplementary activity.

However, the number of planned new locations should be considered separately from the eventual change in the size of the network. With store relocations and closures also under way in Greece, the planned additions alone do not measure net growth in the total number of locations.

The Balkans and France on the expansion map

North Macedonia and Bulgaria are among the markets Coffee Island is preparing to enter. According to BusinessDaily, the chain's chief executive, Panagiotis Konstantinopoulos, outlined the plans. The two countries broaden the geographical scope of its expansion in South-Eastern Europe.

France also remains a focus. Mr Konstantinopoulos said the plan for 10 stores in the country had not been abandoned, with the company taking a measured approach to the market.

The French plan should not be confused with the overall programme for the two-year period. References to 10 stores in France and around 15 new locations abroad in total describe different levels of planning; they do not amount to an announcement that all the French stores will open in 2026–2027.

For a prospective partner, this distinction matters: identifying a country as a target for expansion is not the same as concluding agreements or opening specific stores.

Reorganising the Greek network

In Greece, expansion is taking place alongside a reorganisation that has already been under way for two years. During that period, according to BusinessDaily, a low double-digit number of stores have closed or relocated.

BusinessNews.gr describes the same approach as a targeted plan involving the closure of underperforming locations or relocation to more suitable sites. The Greek strategy is therefore not limited to adding new addresses: it also includes reviewing the performance of the existing network.

The parallel announcement of plans for 10 new stores in Greece shows that reorganisation is taking place alongside the search for new sites. These are not opposing moves, but different elements of the same strategy: expansion where opportunities are identified and changes at locations that are not meeting the company's targets.

Turnover expected to exceed €45 million

Coffee Island expects turnover of more than €45 million in 2026, compared with around €40 million in 2025. This is a forecast for the current year, not a final annual result.

According to Mr Konstantinopoulos, growth is coming from new locations, new franchise agreements and the expansion of the business. The reference to these agreements directly links the growth plan to the franchising community, without implying that a partner has already been secured for every planned store.

At the same time, the company says it is not raising prices and continues to absorb rising costs. The expected increase in revenue is therefore presented in the context of business expansion, rather than as the result of announced price rises.

Practical takeaway: Prospective partners should distinguish between broad expansion targets, available locations and specific agreements. Before making an investment decision, they should assess the proposed site, the terms of the partnership and the financial plan for the individual store.
