Partyland opens at Oulu’s Ideapark with a new franchisee

Party supplies chain Partyland has opened a store at the Ideapark shopping centre in Oulu, Finland. The store opened on 11 September 2026 and is run by franchisee Karoliina Hannula, who discovered the opportunity through a franchise recruitment advert. Franchise News reported on the new store and her early experiences on 19 October. According to Hannula, more than 1,500 customers visited during the opening weekend.

Recruitment advert leads to a store of her own

Hannula’s journey to becoming a Partyland franchisee began when she saw an advert from FranSales seeking a franchisee for the chain in Oulu. In the Franchise News article, she describes coming across the opportunity by chance. Before joining Partyland, she had gained varied experience across different working environments.

Discussions with Partyland’s chain director, Kimmo Mannila, and a FranSales representative then played a central role. Hannula says these conversations strengthened her feeling that she was taking the right path. The recruitment process thus progressed from an initial interest sparked by an advert to personal discussions and, ultimately, the opening of a new store.

The Oulu opening offers Finland’s franchising community a tangible example of how a prospective franchisee and a chain can come together. In this case, the starting point was a recruitment campaign targeting a particular city, rather than, on Hannula’s account, a long-held plan to run a party supplies shop.

Her account also highlights the opportunity to speak both with the chain and with the organisation involved in recruiting franchisees. She mentions both parties when explaining how her confidence in the decision grew. This is her personal experience: it should not be interpreted as a general promise about how recruitment will proceed or whether franchising will suit every applicant.

Opening activities attract customers

Partyland at Oulu’s Ideapark opened its doors on Friday 11 September. Hannula describes the opening weekend as a success, with strong customer turnout. Her reported figure of more than 1,500 customers covers the whole opening weekend, not just the first day of trading.

“We put a lot into the opening weekend activities, and that showed in the visitor numbers,” Hannula told Franchise News.

She therefore links the busy start to the effort put into the opening activities. In her account, the shop was bustling throughout the weekend, giving the new franchisee plenty of customer interaction from the outset.

The visitor figure indicates the interest generated by the launch. However, it should be read specifically as an opening-event figure: customer numbers alone are not a measure of sales or profitability. Hannula’s positive assessment concerns the success of the opening weekend and does not establish how the store will perform financially over the longer term.

The distinction between the dates matters here. The shop opened in September, although the franchisee’s experiences were reported in October. This is therefore not a forthcoming opening or a store still at the planning stage, but a Partyland outlet already trading at Oulu’s Ideapark.

Local opening illustrates the route into franchising

The news from Oulu puts a face to Partyland’s expansion through Hannula. A new shop, a named franchisee and a completed opening weekend make this a clear local news story. For Finland’s franchising community, a particular point of interest is her account of how she became involved.

Hannula’s story has three identifiable stages: spotting the recruitment advert, holding discussions with the chain and FranSales, and opening the shop. These stages describe her own journey. They do not reveal, for example, the circumstances of other applicants or what alternatives she may have considered before making her decision.

FranSales’ role in the story is also specific and clearly defined. It was seeking a Partyland franchisee for Oulu, and its representative took part in discussions with Hannula. On Partyland’s side, she highlights chain director Mannila. The report therefore identifies who was involved in the decision-making stage she describes.

Readers following the opening should distinguish between events that took place and the franchisee’s assessments. The store’s location, opening date and franchisee’s name are the basic facts of the story. The confidence gained through discussions and the success of the launch, meanwhile, are experiences reported by Hannula. Both belong in the account, but they answer different questions.

What should prospective franchisees ask?

The most practical lesson from Hannula’s experience concerns the discussions before committing. Anyone considering becoming a franchisee should use these meetings to clarify their understanding of the day-to-day work, responsibilities and support offered by the chain. Interest sparked by an advert is a useful starting point for questions, but not yet a basis for commitment.

Alongside opening-weekend customer numbers, prospective franchisees should ask about normal trading targets and the financial requirements of the business when preparing their own plans. This keeps the success of an event separate from an assessment of the ongoing business. This is guidance for readers evaluating an opportunity, not a description of Hannula’s agreement or the calculations she made.

Practical takeaway: Partyland’s Oulu opening shows that a franchise recruitment advert can lead to running a new store. Anyone assessing such an opportunity should use discussions to establish both their own suitability and the business terms, while considering opening-event visitor numbers separately from day-to-day profitability.
