Monginis Group announced the signing of three new franchise agreements in Egypt during its Monginis Global Knowledge Exchange event, MGKE 2026, in Cairo, supporting the brand’s expansion in the Egyptian market. The announcement coincided with an agreement to establish a new factory in India in partnership with an Indian investor, according to a report published by Rowad Al-Eqtisad on 28 October 2026.
Three agreements support local expansion
The new agreements put franchising at the heart of Monginis’ Egyptian announcement, while the factory agreement concerns the Indian market. This distinction matters: the announced expansion in Egypt involves franchise agreements, whereas the Indian deal is a partnership to establish a factory.
The agreements reflect Monginis’ intention to strengthen its investment and expand its franchise presence in Egypt. For the country’s franchise sector, the signing represents a concrete development for the brand, moving beyond general ambitions for growth to new agreements with partners.
The step should, however, be described accurately as the signing of three new agreements, not the opening of three branches. Signing a franchise agreement and opening an outlet are separate stages, so the number of agreements should not be treated as the number of branches now trading. Nor does that figure alone indicate the scale of investment or the additional operating capacity these developments will bring.
Cairo event brings together partners from Egypt and India
The agreements were announced at MGKE 2026 in Cairo, attended by India’s ambassador to Egypt, Suresh K. Reddy, a representative of Egypt’s Ministry of Industry and several of the group’s partners. The event brought together diplomatic and government representatives alongside partners from both markets for the announcement of the Egyptian expansion.
Mohamed Sobhi, head of the Ministry of Industry’s Central Administration for Industrial Affairs Oversight, attended on behalf of Industry Minister Khaled Hashem. Also present were 17 Monginis manufacturing franchisees from India, alongside Egyptian franchise partners and the group’s senior management.
This mix of attendees gave the event a direct connection to the franchise sector: participation extended beyond the brand’s management to manufacturing franchisees and local partners. Held under the banner of global knowledge exchange, the event placed the agreements within a broader context of partnership, expansion and dialogue between those involved with the brand in both countries.
The presence of manufacturing franchisees from India also highlights an important aspect of the announcement: the Monginis model presented at the event extends beyond retail outlets to include manufacturing partners. This distinguishes it from an announcement about a single outlet opening or the addition of a new location to an existing retail network.
An Egyptian base of two factories and more than 100 branches
Monginis began in India in 1956 and entered the Egyptian market in 1993. According to the published details, the group has built an Egyptian operation comprising two factories and more than 100 branches, providing the foundation for the newly announced franchise agreements.
Its Egyptian expansion strategy rests on a business model combining manufacturing, distribution and a branch network. Viewing the announcement solely as an increase in retail outlets therefore misses the wider picture: the agreements form part of an established operation spanning the production and distribution of confectionery and baked goods through to the outlets serving consumers.
For investors interested in the brand, these details help establish the nature of its presence: operations in Egypt since 1993, a local manufacturing base and a network exceeding 100 branches. They do not, however, replace an assessment of each individual franchise opportunity, nor do they mean that all branches operate under the same contractual arrangements or achieve identical results.
It is particularly important to distinguish the existing network from the new agreements. The two factories and more than 100 branches describe the group’s established Egyptian business, while the three agreements represent a further step in its expansion rather than a revised total for the network.
Indian factory agreement adds context, but remains a separate development
Alongside the Egyptian agreements, Monginis announced a deal to establish a new factory in India in partnership with an Indian investor. This adds a manufacturing dimension to the event’s announcements, alongside franchise expansion in Egypt, as part of efforts to support industrial and investment cooperation between the two countries.
The announced factory is in India, however, and should not be counted as an addition to the group’s factories in Egypt. The main Egyptian development remains the signing of three franchise agreements, building on the brand’s established presence and operating network in that market.
Practical takeaway: Investors considering Monginis opportunities should distinguish between signed agreements and branch openings, and request details of location, supply arrangements, operations and costs before making an investment decision. The network’s scale provides context, but it is no substitute for assessing the specific opportunity.
