Four Home Services Franchises Set Out Growth and Entry Costs

Four home services franchise brands are expanding their networks, with new figures showing different entry costs and operating models for prospective US franchisees. An October 29 report by Franchise Times details growth at Ace Handyman Services, Mold Medics, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives and Poolwerx, alongside investment requirements and historical sales figures.

Ace Handyman Services passes 400 franchises

Ace Handyman Services has grown from 57 franchises across 23 states at the time of its acquisition to more than 400, according to the report. The stated cost of opening a franchise ranges from $132,200 to $226,000.

Its reported sales figures also illustrate the importance of looking beyond network size when assessing an opportunity. Multi-territory operators in the top quartile recorded average gross sales of $1.5 million in 2025, while those in the bottom quartile averaged $332,217.

Those figures describe two different groups of multi-territory operators, rather than a single average for everyone joining the network. They should not be read as a forecast for a new franchise or as evidence of what a single territory might generate.

For prospective owners, the distinction matters: the investment range provides an entry-cost reference, while the sales figures relate to businesses operating across multiple territories. A meaningful assessment needs to keep those measures separate and examine the operating costs behind gross sales.

Mold Medics builds its territory base

Mold Medics has expanded from a single franchised outlet at the beginning of 2023 to 18 at the end of 2025. The business now has almost 30 territories. Threshold Brands acquired the company in 2023.

Its services include mould testing and remediation, duct and vent cleaning, and water damage dry-outs. The expected investment to start a franchise is between $148,400 and $211,725.

Reported gross sales for franchise businesses in 2025 ranged from $231,477 for a business with one territory to $1.4 million for a business with six territories. As with Ace Handyman Services, the size of the operating footprint is an essential part of the context.

The outlet and territory figures also measure different things. Growth to 18 franchised outlets describes the network at the end of last year; the almost 30 territories describe its more recent territory base. Neither figure should be substituted for the other when comparing expansion across brands.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives adds territories

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives has 89 franchisees operating across 151 territories, up from 141 territories at the start of 2026. That represents an increase of 10 territories during the year to the reporting date.

The brand installs and maintains landscape, architectural, permanent roofline and festive string lighting. It also provides commercial and hospitality lighting, serving both residential and commercial clients.

The total investment required to begin an Outdoor Lighting Perspectives business ranges from $180,700 to $242,500. Average gross revenue for franchises was $770,468 in 2025.

Here, too, the network figures need careful reading. The 151 territories are held by 89 franchisees, so the territory total is not a count of individual business owners. The reported average gross revenue is a historical sales measure, not profit or a guaranteed outcome for a new entrant.

Poolwerx combines mobile services with retail

Poolwerx offers pool maintenance, cleaning, installation and remodelling services, alongside retail equipment and supplies. Its network has more than 460 territories across the United States, Australia and New Zealand, including about 110 in the US.

Chief Operating Officer Marla Mock described a hub-and-spoke approach in which franchisees begin with maintenance and repairs delivered through mobile service vehicles. Within three years, they typically launch a retail business selling supplies, equipment and recreational merchandise to do-it-yourself pool owners.

The reported total investment for a mobile business and retail location is between $276,900 and $437,775. Average sales for franchisees with both retail and mobile units were $3.2 million in 2025. That average relates to the combined model, rather than a mobile-only start-up.

Together, the four brands show the range of operating structures within the home services franchise community. Their figures are useful starting points, but differing territory counts and sales groupings prevent a straightforward like-for-like ranking.

Practical takeaway: Match each investment figure to the precise business format it covers, distinguish territories from outlets, and review costs as well as historical gross sales before making a commitment.
