Raising franchise standards in Slovenia

Independent guidance, professional development and a shared code of conduct for franchisors, franchisees and people exploring their next opportunity.
Foreign franchising emerged in Slovenia during the 1980s, initially through activities such as car rental, credit cards and hotels. Hertz is identified as the first franchise, followed by other international names, predominantly from the United States. Independence in 1991 marked a second phase of development. Over time, Slovenian entrepreneurs also adopted franchising, creating a community that brings together domestic concepts and international networks rather than relying solely on imported brands.
Slovenia has a national franchise association, the Slovenian Franchise Association, whose website includes a questionnaire on whether a business model is suitable for franchising. Historical mapping identified 143 franchises in 2014, although that exercise was still under way. Later accounts describe both domestic and international systems but highlight the absence of an official register. Today's prospective franchisees should therefore treat historical totals as context, not as a verified current count of available opportunities.
QFA supports the franchise community with a code of conduct, free guidance and professional learning designed to promote responsible growth.
