Five Guys has closed its Ion Orchard restaurant, leaving Plaza Singapura as the American burger chain’s only remaining outlet in Singapore. Local franchisee Zouk Group confirmed that the closure took effect on 6 September 2026 and said it would not relocate the restaurant, according to an 8days report published on 2 October.
Zouk confirms closure without relocation
The Ion Orchard restaurant had operated since 2022. Its closure reduces a Singapore network that once comprised three branches to a single location, following the earlier closure of the chain’s Nex outlet.
Responding to questions from 8days about the decision and whether the restaurant would reopen elsewhere, a Zouk Group spokesman said: “We confirm that we elected to close Five Guys at Ion on 6 September. We will not be looking at a relocation, but encourage our Five Guys fans to visit our outlet at Plaza Singapura.”
The statement establishes that the Ion Orchard closure is not a move to another premises. It also directs customers to the remaining restaurant, rather than announcing a replacement location.
At the time of the report, the former Five Guys unit at Ion Orchard remained empty. There was no update from the mall on which business would take over the space.
From three restaurants to the original location
Five Guys entered Singapore in 2019 with its Plaza Singapura restaurant. It subsequently expanded to Ion Orchard and Nex, building a three-outlet presence before the two later additions closed.
The remaining restaurant is therefore also the brand’s original Singapore location. The reported sequence is clear: a 2019 market entry, the addition of Ion Orchard in 2022, and that restaurant’s closure in September 2026. The report also identifies Nex as closed, without specifying a closure date.
For Singapore’s franchise community, the development is a local network contraction, not a complete withdrawal from the market. Five Guys continues to serve customers through Plaza Singapura, and Zouk’s statement explicitly points diners towards that outlet.
That distinction matters when assessing the news. The confirmed decision concerns the Ion Orchard restaurant and the absence of a relocation plan for it. It should not be read as an announcement that the remaining Singapore restaurant is closing, or as confirmation of a wider future expansion programme.
What remains available at Plaza Singapura
The Plaza Singapura outlet continues to offer Five Guys’ customisable burgers, hot dogs, Cajun fries and milkshakes, alongside complimentary freshly roasted peanuts in their shells.
According to the 8days report, burgers start at S$14.50, with customers able to choose from 16 toppings. Options include grilled onions, mushrooms, jalapeño peppers and pickles. Listed signature burgers include the Cheeseburger at S$18.50 and the Bacon Cheeseburger at S$22.50.
Milkshakes start at S$11.80 and can be customised with additions including Oreo pieces, peanut butter and salted caramel. These reported prices provide a reference for customers planning a visit, rather than representing a new promotion connected with the closure.
The restaurant is at unit #01-32, Plaza Singapura, 68 Orchard Road. Its reported opening hours are 11am to 10pm daily. With Ion Orchard no longer trading and Nex also closed, this is the remaining Singapore destination identified for customers seeking the brand’s menu.
A confirmed footprint change, not an explained cause
Zouk’s response confirms the closure date and rules out relocation, but does not give a reason for closing Ion Orchard. The report does not establish restaurant-level sales, operating costs or profitability as causes of the decision.
For franchise operators and prospective partners, the useful lesson is to distinguish a confirmed change in store numbers from assumptions about commercial performance. A smaller network is an observable outcome; the economics behind an individual restaurant’s closure require separate evidence.
Practical takeaway: Customers should head to Plaza Singapura rather than Ion Orchard. Franchise community members tracking the brand should record one remaining Singapore outlet and no relocation planned for the closed Ion restaurant.
