Wyndham plans 30 more franchised hotels in Mexico

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has 30 hotels at various stages of development in Mexico, a market where it already operates 101 properties across 45 cities. The plan combines geographical expansion, a franchise model that allows owners to retain their assets, and digital tools to support operations and bookings.

Mexico among its five largest markets

Mexico is Wyndham’s largest market in Latin America and the Caribbean and ranks among the company’s five most important markets worldwide, according to information published by El Cronista on 7 November 2026. The group operates in almost 100 countries.

Gustavo Viescas, president of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts for Latin America and the Caribbean, said that passing the 100-property mark in Mexico was a milestone for the company. He put its current presence at 101 hotels across 45 cities, describing a range that spans budget accommodation, luxury hotels and all-inclusive resorts.

This variety allows the company to tailor its offering to different types of destination, including beach resorts, cities and business travel hubs. For those interested in franchising in Mexico, the announcement highlights hotel expansion through the addition of properties to an international network.

Thirty projects at different stages

The next phase of growth is underpinned by a pipeline of 30 hotels with agreements already signed. Viescas explained that these projects are at different stages of development, from initial planning to the final phases of construction, and set out a goal of reaching 130 hotels over the coming years.

It is worth distinguishing this pipeline from properties already welcoming guests. The 101 hotels represent current operations; the additional 30 are part of future development. Reaching 130 properties is the target stated by the executive, not a tally of completed openings.

Locations earmarked for expansion include San Miguel de Allende, Los Cabos, Oaxaca, La Paz, Mexico City and Tijuana, as well as various locations on the Yucatán Peninsula. The strategy covers leisure destinations, industrial cities and smaller urban centres.

This geographical spread shows that planned growth is not focused solely on beach hotels. The company aims to expand in locations with different demand profiles, drawing on the breadth of its offering to suit each destination.

Owners retain their assets and direct control

The franchise model is central to this expansion. According to the company’s description, owners benefit from Wyndham’s global distribution infrastructure without relinquishing ownership or direct control of their businesses.

This distinction is important when interpreting the announcement: expanding a hotel brand’s presence does not necessarily mean the international group is acquiring the properties. Under the model described, the asset remains in the owner’s hands while gaining access to the chain’s infrastructure.

For prospective hotel franchisees, this is a tangible feature of the proposed model. It combines continued ownership with access to an international distribution network, rather than requiring the hotel to be sold as a condition of joining.

Digitalisation and an AI customer service pilot

Alongside adding properties, Wyndham is progressing with the rollout of Wyndham Connect. The solution supports digital registration, arrival procedures, the sale of additional services and electronic tipping.

The company will also launch a pilot of Wyndham AI Concierge in Mexico, an intelligent agent designed to automate telephone enquiries and bookings. This is an announced trial and should not be confused with a completed rollout across all its hotels in the country.

Both initiatives support the network’s growth with tools focused on specific guest service and operational tasks. The announcement therefore brings together two strands of work: developing new properties and advancing digital solutions for hotels.

Practical takeaway: before assessing a hotel franchise opportunity, distinguish operating hotels from future projects and check which distribution and technology services will actually be available to each property.
