La Vie Claire targets around 40 store openings in 2027

La Vie Claire is preparing for its next phase of expansion. Having announced 21 new stores since the start of 2026, the organic retailer is targeting around 40 openings in 2027. Franchising is central to this growth: 20 of the 21 stores opened this year are run by independent business owners, according to figures reported by Franchise Magazine on 26 October.

Five openings between August and September

The network’s recent expansion included five openings in less than a month. The first store welcomed customers on 27 August in Grandchamps-des-Fontaines, in the Loire-Atlantique department of western France. Three more followed on 17 September: in Nice, in Alpes-Maritimes; Gétigné, also in Loire-Atlantique; and Saint-Priest, in Rhône. Villeurbanne completed the series on 24 September.

These locations illustrate one of La Vie Claire’s stated priorities: strengthening areas where the brand already has a presence. Around Nantes and Lyon, as well as in the cross-border area around Geneva, the network is seeking to consolidate its coverage rather than focus solely on entering new regions.

At the time of the announcement, three further openings were planned before the end of 2026. This schedule, announced by the retailer, is separate from the 21 stores already opened since the start of the year. The distinction makes it possible to assess progress without treating planned stores as operational outlets.

Franchisees drive most new projects

At the end of September 2026, La Vie Claire had 319 branded outlets: 185 franchised and 134 company-owned. The franchise total included 13 stores in France’s overseas departments and regions and 13 in foreign markets. The network’s total therefore extends beyond mainland France.

The role of independent operators is particularly clear in this year’s openings: they run 20 of the 21 new stores announced. Growth also relies on entrepreneurs who are already part of La Vie Claire’s franchise community. Five of these twenty projects were led by existing franchisees who became multi-unit operators.

Expansion therefore combines the arrival of new operators with further investment by existing partners. Prospective franchisees should distinguish between these two routes: joining a brand to open a first store is a different undertaking from developing several stores after gaining experience within the network.

La Vie Claire also reports a 50% increase in franchise applications in 2026 compared with 2025. This figure measures interest in the brand; it is neither a count of signed contracts nor a guarantee of future openings.

New territories and a broader range of formats

For 2027, the stated target is around 40 openings. La Vie Claire intends to prioritise regions where its presence remains limited, including Alsace in eastern France. It also wants to strengthen its presence in towns and cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants.

This approach complements the work already under way to consolidate its existing locations. It creates two avenues for growth: increasing coverage in established areas and seeking sites in territories where the brand is less well represented. The overall target remains a network ambition, however, rather than a confirmed town-by-town opening schedule.

Diversification also extends to partnerships. As part of a pilot scheme, Botanic, which has 77 stores in France, is becoming a La Vie Claire franchise partner. This should not be confused with a rollout across all Botanic stores: the arrangement is being presented as a pilot.

Alongside this, the retailer has signed a franchise agreement to convert the six outlets of Belgian chain Biocap, which was founded in 2001 and declared bankrupt in March 2026. This adds a cross-border dimension to the network’s expansion, separate from its priorities in France.

Key takeaway for prospective franchisees: the announced plans make it important to clarify the territory and type of project you have in mind. Before committing, ask the network which locations are actually available and distinguish scheduled openings from broader growth targets.
