Canadian franchise development firm Blitz Franchise has established a base in Co Waterford as part of its expansion into Europe. The Irish operation will support businesses looking to develop franchise models and grow their brands, with Tracey Cusack appointed managing director and further local recruitment planned.
Waterford becomes a base for European growth
The move, reported by Business Plus on 3 October, gives Blitz Franchise an Irish base from which to work with businesses in Ireland and elsewhere in Europe. Its intended clients include brands seeking to expand domestically as well as those considering international growth through franchising.
The Waterford operation forms part of the Canadian company’s wider European expansion. Its role is franchise development: helping business owners assess and structure their approach to franchising, then supporting the marketing and recruitment work involved in building a network.
For Ireland’s franchise community, the announcement is therefore about the arrival of a development services provider rather than the opening of a new consumer-facing franchise outlet. Blitz Franchise is seeking to work with businesses that want to use franchising as a route to growth.
The company said it already has several brands working with it and intends to expand its network and establish a presence in the Irish franchise market.
Services span assessment to franchisee recruitment
Blitz Franchise’s planned offering covers several stages of the franchise development process. These include assessing a business’s franchise potential, structuring its business model, marketing franchise opportunities, generating leads and recruiting franchisees.
That scope places the company’s work both before and during franchise recruitment. Assessing potential and structuring a model address how a business might expand; marketing and lead generation focus on reaching prospective franchise owners.
Ali Khan, vice-president of Blitz Franchise, described the combination of services as a distinguishing feature of the company’s Irish offering.
“There are not many companies in Ireland offering the integrated services that we are bringing to the market,” he said.
“The response we’ve received so far has been very positive and confirms that there is a real need for this type of franchise development expertise.”
Khan’s comments set out the company’s view of the opportunity in Ireland. Its stated approach is to bring those development and recruitment activities together, rather than focus solely on promoting franchise opportunities to applicants.
For a business owner considering the service, the relevant starting point is which stage of development needs support: testing the potential to franchise, shaping the model or finding suitable franchisees.
Irish leadership and recruitment plans
Tracey Cusack has been appointed managing director of the Irish operation. Her appointment accompanies the establishment of the Waterford base and the company’s plans to build its local presence.
Blitz Franchise also said it plans to create further employment in Ireland, with several new hires expected to join the local team in the coming months. Those appointments remain planned additions, distinct from the managing director appointment already announced.
The company drew a comparison between Ireland and its home market of Québec. It identified a relatively small and concentrated market, alongside a strong entrepreneurial community, as characteristics shared by the two locations.
That comparison provides context for its choice of Ireland within the wider European expansion. The company’s stated ambition extends beyond serving Irish businesses alone, with the Waterford base also intended to support work with European brands.
What business owners should consider
The immediate development is a new franchise services presence in Waterford, supported by an Irish leadership appointment and plans to recruit locally. The next steps outlined by Blitz Franchise are to grow its network, add to its team and work with more businesses pursuing franchise-led expansion.
Practical takeaway: Business owners considering franchise development support should ask which services are included, who will deliver them and how progress will be assessed. Keep the initial assessment of franchise potential separate from any later decision to market opportunities or recruit franchisees.
